Summer Lovin’ is happening all around and it’s almost impossible to escape the summer without attending a wedding. This summer I was lucky enough to end up in the Dominican for a family friend’s wedding. I could not have imagined a more beautiful place for a wedding, plus the company was wonderful and the shoes were optional!
Even if you do not end up at the beach for a wedding this summer, here are a few tips for any wedding in these heated months.
1. Light layers– Especially if the wedding is outside, you will want to be wearing light layers. During the day it will be hot and you will want the least amount of clothing possible, but as the sun going down so does the temperature. I chose to wear a maxi dress (Betsy Johnson via TJ Maxx) because it was light enough during the day and blocked the cold breeze at night.
2. Up-dos– Keep your hair off your shoulders. Even if you think your hair looks “amazeballs” down, you will thank me later! I ended up doing the bride’s hair for her wedding and the only goal was that it was up and wouldn’t get messed up in the wind or the sun. 100 bobby pins and half a bottle of hair spray later and her hair looked perfect all night long. My hair, on the other hand, was a mess after keeping it down.
3. Don’t over dress– Sometimes the appropriate style will be cocktail attire, but other times (like this beach wedding) a cute summer dress will do the trick. Don’t be afraid to ask the bride what the correct attire is.
Once you are done picking out your outfit, make sure to help your date out with his outfit (because we all know they will need help). Check out Paul Fredrick’s blog with tips for men attending summer weddings, and their website for mens’ shirts, ties and suits!
