New York City has a way of pushing the most colorfully attired people into a black hole. Not a black hole emotionally, but stylishly. Before moving here, I would attempt to be “cool” and wear all black outfits, failing every time because that just wasn’t my style. Since arriving in the Big Apple I have transitioned my wardrobe into a sea of black and neutrals. Sometimes it feels good to get back to my pattern and color roots like I did with this outfit. Okay, I guess it’s not that colorful, but it is very bright for the streets of New York.
Another style tip I have picked up along the way is that once you think you’re layered up enough for a winter day, add another piece. There are times that I am melting away underground on the subway, but that is nothing compared to freezing on the sidewalk. I even ended up adding a black turtle neck to this outfit for work because of the long walk I had.
There is nothing wrong with taking inspiration from the city, just keep yourself in every outfit rather than feeling like the city overtook your wardrobe. I may wear black now, but I am still rocking my Sassy Fox sweater for the 4th year in a row. If you have recommendations for a replacement because you are also tired of this sweater, please share!
